Niger
In the Sahara region of West Africa, Niger is four-fifths the size of the US state, Alaska. Niger is surrounded by Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Libya, Mali and Nigeria. In the southwest, the Niger River flows through the only fertile area in the nation. Everywhere else, the land is semiarid.
During West Africa tours, travelers can see that two-thirds of Niger is desert, with most of the northeast being uninhabitable country. The other third is savannah, which is mainly appropriate for limited agriculture and raising livestock. The volcanic Air Massif is in the north-central region with heights escalating up to nearly 6,000 feet.
West Africa tours in Niger result in sightseeing of Zinder, Niamey, Maradi, Tenere and Massif de L’Air deserts, which features ethnic groups of the Peul, the Hausa and the Tuareg. Phrases and vocabulary can be heard from the various ethnic groups. Religion and culture of Niger is quite immense, along with ecological and social issues.
